Margot Genet is a French lyric soprano whose wide-ranging repertoire extends from Händel, Mozart and Donizetti to French music and contemporary works. She is a member of the ensemble of the Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken.
There, she has performed roles including Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Blanche de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites) and Woglinde (Götterdämmerung), a production also presented at the Opéra Royal de Versailles. Her interpretation of Blanche was praised by the German press for its “incredible range” and expressive power. The 2026/27 season sees her make role debuts as Ninetta (The Love for Three Oranges), the Goose-Girl (Königskinder) and Rose Maurrant (Street Scene), as well as performing the soprano solo in Brahms’ German Requiem. She is also a guest at Theater Bremen, where she returns to the role of Stela in Innocence.
From 2023 to 2025, Margot Genet was a member of the ensemble of the Musiktheater im Revier (MiR), where she distinguished herself in roles including Musetta (La Bohème), Nannetta (Falstaff), Despina (Così fan tutte) and Stela in Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence. In 2024, she received the Gelsenkirchener Theaterpreis in recognition of her outstanding performances at the MiR. Alongside her ensemble work, she appeared at the Opéra Comique in Zémire et Azor under the baton of Louis Langrée, with the B’Rock Orchestra under the musical direction of René Jacobs in Carmen, at the Händel-Festspiele Halle, and with the Bochumer Symphoniker.
She made her stage debut in 2019 as part of the Opéra Studio of the Opéra National de Lyon, performing Fire, the Princess and the Nightingale (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges), Ygraine (Ariane et Barbe-Bleue) and Poussette (Manon, in concert), under the baton of Daniele Rustioni in Lyon and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. She subsequently joined the NRW Opernstudio, where she sang roles including Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers), Norina (Don Pasquale), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) and the title role in Avner Dorman’s Die Kinder des Sultans at Aalto Theater Essen, Theater Dortmund, Oper Wuppertal and Musiktheater im Revier.
Born in Limoges, Margot Genet began her musical studies with the cello before turning to singing. She studied at the Haute École de Musique de Genève and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) in the class of Elisabeth Werres. She was awarded scholarships from the “Malvina and Denise Menda” programme of the Opéra Comique (2021) and the Richard Wagner Association in Dortmund (2023), and was a member of the Académie Jaroussky in the 2020/21 season. She also participated in the Académie de l’Abbaye de Royaumont in 2021 and the Atelier Lyrique of the Verbier Festival in 2022. She currently works with New York-based vocal coach Neil Semer.
