Last week, I had the privilege of hosting a Q&A session with some students from the @iceland_university_of_the_arts ! When I graduated from the @udkberlin.gesang a few years ago, I felt completely lost about what steps to take next to build a career as an opera singer. Now that I’ve (more or less) navigated this tricky transition, I’m really grateful for the opportunity to give back by sharing what I’ve learned about the industry. I’ve done my fair share of auditions in my life (let’s say… around a hundred? 🤔), and in my humble experience, 12:00 is an ideal time. For my latest audition, I was asked if I had any preference for the audition time, so yes, it does happen sometimes! Why 12:00 is the perfect time : 🚅 I (try to) never travel on the day of the audition. So even if I arrive late the night before, I don’t have to wake up too early 🎵 You can start warming up (Body, breath and SOVTEs) in the hotel room because at that time you’re not disturbing anyone 🏨 If you’ve booked a hotel room, checkout is usually around 11:00 am, so you’re usually already on your way to the audition venue by then ☕️ You can have a big breakfast and just eat a little snack before singing (for the non-singers out there, there is a whole science with meal planning before singing : you shouldn’t be hungry while singing because you need a lot of energy, but you also shouldn’t eat a huge meal right before. Trust me, don’t do that.) 😴 It’s not THAT early, so the voice has time to wake up and be in good shape 🌇 Once you’re done, if you don’t live too far from the audition location, you still have time to explore the city without any stress before you have to catch the train back! Innocence show number 5: ☑️ Just 2 more to go! The audience’s warm reactions never fail to amaze me. It’s incredible to feel how deeply this opera resonates with people. While the story—centered on a school massacre—can be shocking, the message behind it is both powerful and nuanced. I love that, in opera, the themes almost always revolve around love, honor, or betrayal. But with the subject of attacks being so relevant today, I feel an even deeper connection to all these characters. 🫂 Some nice reviews : « With an effortlessly captivating soprano, Margot Genet portrays Stela, the initially unsuspecting and later increasingly horrified bride of the gunman’s complicit brother. » Michael Kaminski – Concerti « The production is cast in an entirely coherent and meaningful way. Happy New Year everyone! 🥳✨ 2024 has been a very intense year for me !! It marked my first year—and the beginning of my second year—as an ensemble member at an opera house in Germany. I can definitely feel the difference compared to my time in the opera studio, and while I’ve gained more confidence, the roles I’m entrusted with are larger, which means the learning curve is still very much present. I feel incredibly lucky to have surrounded myself with an amazing team, and this environment has been a true catalyst for my growth as an artist. Observing and learning from my talented colleagues is such a privilege and an ongoing source of inspiration 🙏 Here’s to hoping that 2025 will be just as rich and fulfilling! 🥂🥹 Also, thank you so much to everyone who has started following me over the past few months.
