
Margot Genet began her musical studies with the cello before turning to singing at the Conservatoire of Limoges. She continued her studies at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, earning her Bachelor’s degree in 2016, and then at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) in Elisabeth Werres’ class, where she completed her Master’s degree in 2019. She further refined her artistry with Neil Semer, Edith Wiens, Hedwig Fassbender, Elène Golgevit, Regina Werner, and Ludovic Tézier. She is a recipient of the Malvina et Denise Menda scholarships from the Opéra Comique (2021) and the Richard-Wagner-Verband in Dortmund (2023). She was a member of the Académie Jaroussky for the 2020–21 season, participated in the Abbaye de Royaumont Academy in 2021, and took part in the Verbier Festival’s Atelier Lyrique in 2022.
She made her stage debut with the Opéra Studio of the Opéra National de Lyon, performing the roles of Fire, the Princess, and the Nightingale (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges), Ygraine (Ariane et Barbe-Bleue), and Poussette (Manon, concert version) under the direction of Daniele Rustioni, in Lyon and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. She then joined the NRW Opernstudio, where she sang roles including Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers), Norina (Don Pasquale), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), and the title role in Avner Dorman’s Die Kinder des Sultans at the Aalto Theater Essen, Theater Dortmund, Oper Wuppertal, and Musiktheater im Revier.
From 2023 to 2025, she was a member of the Musiktheater im Revier (MiR), where she excelled in roles such as Musetta (La Bohème), Nannetta (Falstaff), Despina (Così fan tutte), and Stela (Innocence by Kaija Saariaho). In 2024, she received the Gelsenkirchener Theaterpreis for outstanding performances at the MiR. In parallel, she performed Lisbé (Zémire et Azor) at the Opéra Comique under Louis Langrée and Frasquita (Carmen) with the B’Rock Orchestra, conducted by René Jacobs, in various European cities. She was invited in 2024 to the Händel Festspiele Halle for a recital with the Ensemble Castor and made her debut with the Bochumer Symphoniker in 2025.
Starting in the 2025 season, she will join the ensemble of the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, where she will perform roles including Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Blanche de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites), and Woglinde (Götterdämmerung), a production that will also be presented at the Opéra Royal de Versailles in 2026.
